Roof & Attic Ventilation in NEPA & New Jersey

A roof that cannot breathe cooks shingles in summer and grows ice dams in winter. We assess intake and exhaust together and fix the balance.

Our Service

About our roof ventilation services

Ventilation is the part of a roof nobody thinks about until it causes a problem. Air has to enter low at the soffits and leave high at the ridge; when that path is blocked or unbalanced, heat and moisture sit in the attic. In a Northeast Pennsylvania winter that melts snow on the roof deck and refreezes it at the cold eave, which is how ice dams form. In summer it bakes the underside of the shingles and shortens the life of the whole roof. Allabaugh Construction assesses intake and exhaust together — blocked soffits are as common a cause as too little ridge vent — and installs ridge vents, soffit vents, gable and static vents to correct the balance.

FAQs

Frequently asked

How do I know if my roof ventilation is inadequate?

Common signs are ice dams at the eaves in winter, an attic that is far hotter than outside in summer, frost or damp on the underside of the roof deck, and shingles that have aged much faster than they should have.

Will adding more vents on the roof fix it?

Not on its own. Exhaust without matching intake pulls air from inside the house instead of the soffits, which can make things worse. We check the intake first — blocked or insulated-over soffits are the more common half of the problem.
